Hey there cola hearted woman
Come and drink from my loving cup
It will melt your cola heart babe,
Cause it is filled with 7up
7up embarked on the Uncola approach with its ads starting about 1970. They went straight for the youth (that would be US!) with its commercials featuring bright lights, rock and roll, and promises of romance.
The one featuring the can light stuck vividly in my mind.
My oldest brother's wife actually bought me one of the dancing filament 7up lights. I was mesmerized by its rapid flickering, particularly in a dark bedroom with WLS on the radio.
The flickering filament wouldn't last very long before burning out. And, they were expensive to replace. So most 7up can lights, mine included, ended up with regular bulbs in them.
I was recently delighted to find under my house (built in 1972) a 7up can that looks exactly like the one in the illustration. Perhaps I'll turn it into a lamp someday.

WLS, now that brings back memories. I lived in the middle of the state of Tennessee, and about an hour after dark, when all the local stations had signed off and the airwaves settled down, WLS would come through. Dick Biondi was so much fun!

Oh my gosh! I can't believe you have a picture of that 7up flicker light! I had one of those, and was trying hard to find a picture of it last year! Thank you so much. I think I got that around the same time I got my Foot Rug! Remember those? It was a throw rug shaped like a foot. Mine was lime green. Fun memories!

I have been looking for one of those green 7up flicker bulbs for years. I have the can, but without the bulb it's not the same.

The 7Up flicker light was sold for $4.00 each here in Tulsa in 1970-71. Our late night movie host, Dr. Mazeppa Pompazoidi, was the most visible pitchman. I've got a movie of the "cola hearted woman" commercial and pics of Mazeppa with the "Gizzer Blinkie", as he called it on the linked page.

By the way, I have found 7Up lights on eBay, and incredibly, the flicker bulbs are intact after all these years. I gave one to Mazeppa a few years ago--who deserves one more than he?

Now, If I had the 7-up lamp AND a working model of the Panasonic 8-track that looked like a bomb detonator
in primary colors(mine was blue), I could die a happy man......oh, and remember those cheesy speaker looking cabinets you attached
to the stereo for cheap light show syncronization?
Windows media player owes that company royalties big time!

Hey everyone, that 7up bulb was developed by my Uncle (Kyp-Go Inc).
Currently Kyp-Go Inc. has reemerged and is producing the flicker bulbs. They are now new and improved. Come in different sizes and last longer than a regular light bulb.
You can see them here: http://www.kyp-go.com/default.htm
